UPDATE: Amare calls Spurs dirty after a couple plays in Game 2. The most blatant is Bruce Bowen kicking him on a dunk.

As an NBA fan you can't ask for a better matchup than this. As a Suns fan, our team can't win a title without beating this team in the playoffs. It's almost a rite of passage.

Apparently there's plenty to talk about during this long series break. Nash and STAT both made 1st team All-NBA. No love for Marion this year.

Also the reason Amare landed funny on that dunk the other night. Reporters asked D'Antoni if Amare was hurt. He said no, Amare was tired or something. Turns out Bruce Bowen kicked him in the Achilles. Video here:

I'm getting awfully tired of Bruce Bowen, irregardless of how good of a man defender he is. You should never be willing to injure an opposing player over two points, and he's proved that his values are consistently skewed.

My favorite Bowen move is the kick to Wally World's face. He's harmless, just a litle too aggressive sometimes.

Bruce would never deliberately hurt any player. He's not that kind of player. Ask our own Sean Marks.

Amare, on the other hand, does tend to be paranoid. I'm sure he's been combing through game film since he was shut down in Game 1 to try to find some incident to fire him up. Hey, whatever works for him.

The problem is, Amare, you also just gave the Spurs the energy they needed! I'm sure your teammates really love you right now!

The film can be interpreted any of a number of ways. To me it looks like Bruce leaned back to avoid getting the foul and slipped. But the majority of the Phx fans will interpret it another way and that's their prerogrative. It's a shame, though. The Suns and Spurs are both classy organizations--the two best in the league-- and now all the media yahoos are going to zoom in on this one accident. It will detract from all the class acts on the floor on Saturday night.

Thank you, Amare.

I agree with mg!

Usually when a player gets a rap as a dirty player and has multiple people calling him out, it's not just a fluke. All you Spurs sympathizers are just looking for a reason to justify Bowen's play.

He is dirty and he did try to kick Amare's heel out. The Spurs may be a good organization from a winning standpoint but not from the way they play.

They harass the refs more than any team in the league on every single call not to mention letting a hack like Bowen get away with such irresponsible play on the court.

I wouldn't be surprised if Pop encourages it.

MG's remark was useful, and pulled me back from making an conclusion that is undue because I wasn't there. I am now saying "I *don't* know." And even if it was a hit, Stoudemire should not have said anything.

Stoudemire has to call stuff like that out, as it actually worked like Bowen had planned and almost lost him a bucket. If it works once, Bowen will do it again, and now that he's called him out on it the refs will be looking for it. Ignoring the problem and hoping it will go away isn't going to solve it, in this particular case at least.

It's incredibly hard to try and say that Bowen, who was 5 feet away when that pass came to Stoudemire, didn't do it on purpose, that's not a natural motion th flail your leg out like that, right at somebody's heel.

That's exactly it. If he doesn't call Bowen out his actions are reinforced and it makes him more likely to do it again. Also, considering Bowen's track record, it most likely was a conscious act and not accidental.

He's been suspended for it before and called out by most star players who have had Bowen guarding him. You can't let crap like that fly, especially in the playoffs.

I guess Bowen thinks good defense = hurting the other player.

My thing about Bowen is the little things. He reminds me of Rick Mahorn. He gets in those little shots. In this series, he's kicked Nash in the head, he's attempted to trip Amare on another dunk attempt and of course the kick we've been talking about. I don't want to hear about class and all that crap, there are guys who play physical and Bowen intentionally takes it too far sometimes to get in guys' heads. He does it smoothly but he still does it. There wouldn't be this many complaints if it weren't the case. Plenty of people complained about Laimbeer, Mahorn, Rodman and now guys like Bowen, James Posey and our own Raja Bell are the ones pushing guys buttons. Good defenders are all a little dirty... and they tend to play on the best teams. I have no problem with Amare calling them out. Last year in the Lakers series, they tried to punk the Suns and when PHX fought back (literally) they won the series. Now they have to go out and beat the Spurs.

James Posey is dirty?

I don't know if you're being sarcastic anon but Posey has unleashed a few cheap shots- specifically against Bulls Kirk Hinrich and Luol Deng.

I didn't know Amare is also a whiner on top of being arrogant. Just play the game & wait for Nash to give you the ball. That's all you can do anyway.

Do you know Amare? You don't know shit.

The Spurs are the whiniest team ever. They whine over every call.

I'm so ready for Game 3. What's up with the dramatic pause NBA?

The whole discourse about Bowen being a dirty player started with Ray Allen. Now, everytime a great player gets shut down by Bowen's defense they jump on Allen's bandwagon, claiming Bowen is a dirty player. Their egos are so amazing!

When the Spurs were defeated in Game 2 they all gave the Suns credit for their better defense. None of them attacked Raja or Amare. Tony never blamed Leandro for his potentially career-ending fall (and, yes, if you play that tape segment in slow motion it also looks deliberate...)

C'mon folks, give it a rest.

How is kicking and undercutting people shutting someone down? Nothing gets another baller heated more than an undercut.

MG: The main difference is track records. Barbosa has no track record of ever playing dirty, ever. The only track record he has is of being a happy go lucky kid from Brazil that, if anything, is a bit too laid back and doesn't play physical enough. If you compare that to Bowen who has a track record including spraining tons of people's ankles in the same way, the same people, and always when they are lighting him up, flying jump-kicking Wally Szczerbiak, and the league-wide complaining about his complete disregard for other player's health, there's a huge difference. I have no problem with the Spurs, and they earned game one. These complaints came after a Suns win though, it's not like Amare was making excuses, he was trying to point out that he got kicked in the Achilles in a way that couldn't be mistaken for anything else.

If Bowen was out there shutting down Nash, or shutting down Barbosa, or shutting down Marion, I'd be the first to recognize it and give him credit for it. I love great individual defenders, and I can't lavish enough praise on how well players like Chris Duhon and Dahntay Jones do as individual defenders that nobody notices. Bowen has been an elite perimeter defender for years, but he's also been known to injure players, and play with a disregard for the health and well-being of opposing players. When the league told him to stop it, Popovic outright told him to keep doing it.

It's not lack of sportsmanship that's causing Amare to complain about getting kicked in the Achilles, it's the fact that he got purposely kicked in the Achilles to try to stop a dunk.

Let's revisit tonight's game, shall we?
Amare punches Horry but Horry gets called for the foul. ESPN cameras bust Thomas grabbing Duncan's clothing so hard he was virtually wringing the sweat out. Ginobili gets swatted not once but twice, with the black eye to prove it, but no foul is called.

The list goes on and on. D'Antoni, in the post-game interview, says "...if that's the way they want to play..."

All I am saying is that the "dirty playing" is just the nature of the game. Suns, if you can't handle the physicality of the game then just retire and enjoy your millions.

My remark about James Posey was not sarcastic.

You guys should listen to MG. I guess Parker intentionally ran into Nash's nose with his forehead. Nash and Bell are the only ones on the Suns not whining about the officiating and Nash has gotten the worst on both teams. And you guys call the Spurs whiners? Give me a break! And D'Antoni is the worst of them all! Too bad most of his players are following his lead.
And Zei_Zao_LS, Popovich never told Bowen to play dirty, he told him to keep playing the way he does.
Hershey, are you ready for game 4?
