Look at the Miami player grinning at Marion's dunk! Who smiles at being burned?
Barbosa got a new career high, 39 points. Seriously tore up Orlando.
Hey joshua, it's obvious that Haslem is checking out Marion's ass. It's firm, yet supple.
Also, I just wanted to mention to someone that Steve Nash is shooting 59 percent from the field and three-point range. Not bad.
Zei, got the Orlando update in there.
Thanks to the internet I was able to uh... watch the Suns/Heat video and Nash was out of his mind in that game. I love the last three he hit in transition. Cold blooded.
Haven't been able to catch LB's performance in Orlando yet.
Remember to pay your cable bill before traveling internationally kids. It might hinder your ability to order League Pass.
Phoenix is definitely a championship contender, and now that Stoudemire is playing well again, the Suns are back on track.
I don't know. The way people keep saying the team is playing with insufficient energy despite winning, I don't feel like changing my gloomy prediction that this year's team will do about exactly as well as it did last year--second round, possibly third. I'm annoyed with Grant Hill--I don't care whether he makes his threes, that's not what he's here for. And Stoudemire...I like him better than I liked Barkley, because Stoudemire has a work ethic, but but I feel impatient with him. He needs to become a good defender yesterday. --Josh
Are you a Suns fan Josh? Lighten up and let us enjoy the season.
After 9 games, I have the following observations:
- The Suns record doesn’t reflect how well (or poor) the team is playing. It’s clear to me this team is still working through a lot of issues including rotation minutes, injuries, and conditioning. But that’s OK. This is the time to work those things out. So I’m pleased with a 7-2 start. But I am worried about a few things . . .
- Has anybody noticed the Suns seem to play better when Amare is not on the court? Last night’s game against the Bulls is a great example. When Amare is in, the Suns don’t move the ball as well. So they don’t get very good shots. A lot of it has to do with Amare forcing the offense. I love his ability to finish and get to the free throw line. But the team needs to incorporate his game into the offense. Right now, the machine stops when he’s in and gets the ball. Maybe his unique ability to collect fouls like they’re going out of style is a good thing.
- Every time Shawn Marion and Grant Hill take a 3 - I cringe. Both of their shots are ugly and inconsistent. I still think there should be a two shot rule for both of them. If you take two and miss both, you’re done. No more 3’s the rest of the game.
- It’s clear to me that Coach D’Antoni is not interested in reducing minutes for the top seven. I hate that! Will you please try to develop the bench. I watched the Laker game the other night. At one point in the game, all five starters were on the bench together. Will Phil Jackson be doing that come playoff time? Of course not. But we’re not in the playoffs right now.
- Hey Zei. Do you still think that Alando Tucker will contribute this year? Was he even in uniform last night? Maybe I’m writing him off a little early, but it seems to me that Tucker is more proof that late first round picks generally don’t pan out. That’s why I have no problem with trading those picks away.
- In general, things are good. But the team has a long ways to go if they want to win a championship this year. The good news is that there’s plenty of time to work out the kinks.
One more thing. It wouldn't bother me if Steve Kerr traded away the first round ATL pick from the Joe Johnson trade. It's getting less and less valuable as the Hawks get better and better. I don't think it will even be a lottery pick when everything is said and done. I was all for taking the gamble to see if the Suns could get a top pick in the 2007 draft. But ATL won the lottery, so now the Suns have to move on. Package the pick and Amare to the T-wolves for Garnett. Oh wait - nevermind.
As soon as Alando gets his outside shot consistent, I'd expect him to see minutes. D'Antoni is notorious for the short leash he has his bench on and, honestly, when he was in I was very impressed with his game. He seems to have the most refined post game of anyone on this whole team, which is great because he's playing at the 2 and 3 for us, and most 2's and 3's can't defend the post for crap.
As soon as that three point shot gets consistent, he can do some good things in this offense. He can run the break, finish, play defense, and score around the hoop... yet sadly, the one requisite for being on the floor in D'Antoni's offense as a wing is that you can shoot.
I've noticed it, Russell, so let me add my voice to yours and say what I've painfully thought ever since 2005-06: the Suns are better without Amare Stoudemire. I like him, but his greatness has hit a wall, and shows no sign of getting over it.
Fire Mike D'Antoni! I could care less about his great offensive sets, because Suns teams have scored as high under other coaches. D'Antoni is not what makes this team work.
D'Antoni is the only guy right now who can run Phoenix's offense the way it is. Yes, he laid the ground work and fundamental offensive sets that makes this team so deadly. Make no mistake about it, he's an offensive mastermind... but his defense doesn't seem to be enough of a point of emphasis and he keeps the bench on too short of a leash.
The only coach I'd have wanted to take over for D'Antoni this year is in Memphis, so I'd rather not have a coaching change.
Also: The team is much better with Amare on the floor for all the little things. Of late, not as much, because he's out of rhythm and on wobbly legs... but even then, the way he moves without the ball, challenges his opponents and forces the defense to guard him (Before, the only people on the team that FORCED you to guard them were Nash and Barbosa, now we've got Hill who does it as well, but nobody does it as well as Amare on this team.)
While sometimes the ball sticks in his hands, that's the same reason he's the only guy on our team that consistently gets to the foul line. He forces his defender to guard him and punishes him for trying.
Defensively, Amare is putting in the effort this year. His rotations are getting better and he's getting a lot more clean blocks than before. He still overuses his upper body in post defense and wanders off his man on occasion, but he has made visible mental strides, and I think as his legs come back he will definitely show that he's improving. (He had 6 blocks the other night in 26 minutes, and before the beginning of the 4th quarter was playing very heady, smart defense before he picked up those rapid-fire calls, at least one of which didn't need to be called and another one being kind of iffy.)
Don't lose the faith guys. ;)
To all Amare haters:
The Suns are not better without him. He is VITAL. They cannot win a championship without his help down low.
I don't see any Amare Stoudemire haters here. I said I like him. And not long after I posted criticism of him, he went out and, with Shawn Marion, shut down Yao Ming. Not that that was like shutting down Tim Duncan, but it was noteworthy. I sometimes wonder if Yao dislikes Stoudemire for being in his draft class but being a better rookie and having a more successful team. (I must post anonymously because the blog is no longer accepting my ID/password.)
Odd. Check to see if your google account is still active, or your blogger account, as that's what it runs through.
This team without Amare is Chicago. The lack of post presence would gradually kill them. The 05-06 team was great and we all loved them but Boris played a different game that year. They lost to Dallas- a team Amare dominates.
I don't understand all the criticism of Amare when the guy is playing into shape after a minor surgery on his knee. He's got stuff to work on but he's still an elite player. The season is not even a month old, the team is 8-2 with plenty of kinks to improve on. The team has started slow but is still finding a way to win games.
I'm not suggesting this team has a better shot to win it all if Amare's not on the floor. All I'm saying is that the offense is stagnant when he's in. And the Suns MUST fix that. It's early, there's still time, and all the other cliches. Bottom line is that it must be fixed or it will doom this team. My concern is more with the team than with Amare himself.
