Suns Pursuing (Player Name)

The Phoenix Suns are reportedly pursuing (Player) who was recently waived by the (City) (Team) in an attempt to add depth to their bench. Steve Kerr is said to have personally visited (Player)'s house and bribed him with large sums of candy and prescription pain killers. The Suns need a player like (Player) who can add (shooting/rebounding/toughness/defense) coming off the bench.
When asked for a comment, Suns general manager Steve Kerr said, "Yeah, any time you can get a guy like (Player), a guy who brings (shooting/rebounding/toughness/defense) to the table, not to mention his playoff experience and high character, it's really a no brainer to at least tell people you're interested in him."
When Mike D'Antoni was asked about the rumors, he gave his trademark smile and said "I hope we do get (Player). I'm sure he'll love sitting next to Sean Marks and Eric Piatkowski while wondering why he's not getting any playing time."

Very cynical, Zei. But very understandable.
This season is to the Nash Suns what 1995-96 was to the Charles Barkley Suns. It's not an exact parallel, since these Suns aren't as worn-out, but it's similar. Except that Paul Westphal didn't snub his bench. Hell, in the early Barkley era, Westphal even started legendary slacker Jerrod Mustaf once or twice.
I must say, I wasn't upset by the ending of the Philadelphia game. I really liked the way the Suns fought back. --Josh
I'm not trying to troll here, but in full disclosure I'm a die hard Lakers fan. Aren't you fans completely pissed at Steve Kerr or what? I've watched the Lakers and Pistons games and I have to say the Suns look wretched. They are so far away from the team they used to be.
I have one friend in particular who is a die hard Suns fan. He wasn't happy about this trade. What's the general sentiment about it? Had things gotten so bad chemistry-wise that a move HAD to be made? This just makes no sense to me.
I didn't mind trading Marion, and I didn't mind getting Shaq... but part of making a good trade is getting the most value possible back for the assets you're giving up. The Suns could have got much more, and a player that is a whole lot less of a risk to boot. (I'd honestly have preferred Kirilenko.)
I haven't given up on the trade yet, as the Suns have actually done very well in the aspects that the trade was supposed to help in (Most notably, rebounding and letting Amare just go out there and play instead of having to bang), so all hope isn't lost.
On that note, I just noticed that every single last player that got waived has "Gotten interest from the Suns", so I figured I'd give my take on it. ;)
Well, I think something new is happening that I don't see how Shaq could be responsible for. Steve Nash and Raja Bell, especially Bell, are both in shooting slumps. In some recent game (New Orleans?), Bell was went scoreless and probably didn't defend any better; he was so bad he should have been benched. --Josh
The real impact of the trade won't be clear until the playoffs. Marion's departure is something we've been talking about for a while so the trade wasn't a shock, it's who we got back that was.
The only thing that has bothered me so far is not feeding Shaq in the post. Getting him some looks leads to fouls and collapsing defenses. They're using him too much in the high post as a decoy. I think we'll see some adjustments in the coming games.
Nice take Zei.
One things for sure, the odds are looking better that the Suns might get that lottery pick they're hoping for. Unfortunately, instead of the ATL pick it might be their own.
Russell
You know, if they get any lottery pick, I think they must take a big man to replace Shaq when he retires. I'd take Roy Hibbert.
They won't get a lottery pick. Even if they fall out of the playoffs (still not happening), they will have a pick in the 20's because of how awful the lottery teams are.
What do you mean Zei? If I'm not mistaken, the top 14 picks go to the non-playoff teams through the lottery. Am I missing something?
Doesn't matter though. I forgot that Seattle owns the Suns first round pick this year. Does anyone know if that pick is protected?
It should be noted that I was deprived of sleep at the time of writing that, and had no idea what I was talking about. Yeah, we'd get a lottery pick... but I'd be very bitter about it.
That said, we dealt our pick from this year ... and I don't remember if it had any protection on it. So... yeah....
I wish I had a dollar for every time we've heard a quote like this since the Shaq trade:
"I think for us it is a matter of trying to figure it out." and "it's going to take us some time."
Here's some news guys - Time's up! You're only 3.5 games up on the 9th seed in the West. It's time to figure it out.
Russell
If the Suns reach the playoffs at all, there will be a silver lining to the current situation. Their championship expectations will have been stripped, enabling them to play as though they have nothing to lose, like Golden State against Dallas last year. The other thing is, it won't matter which team they get in the first round, because they will be an underdog against all opponents (except possibly Houston, whom they've had their way with.) --Josh, March 9
BIG win yesterday over Los Spurs. If nothing else, it proves the Suns still have a shot to win some playoff games. And that's a step forward.
We can expect the Spurs to execute better down the stretch in most games. But we can also expect the Suns to shoot better from the outside.
And I like what I'm hearing from D'Antoni:
"It's not as bad as you guys thought it was and it's probably not as good as you guys think right now."
Now let's see if this can be the first step in the right direction. I sure hope so.
Russell
Does anybody think Shawn Marion is enjoying being "The Man" in Miami? Hey Shawn - Maybe being the 3rd wheel wasn't so bad, huh?
I'll give credit where credit is due. The Suns pulled it together in time to put an end to the missing the playoffs talk. Well done.
Now they need to keep the momentum and show that they can beat some good teams. No overlooking the game tonight (Seattle), then it's 3 tough ones in a row (Houston, @Detroit, @Boston). Winning 2 out of 3 will make me happy.
Getting a top 4 seed in the West will be important.
Russell
The Suns have shown that they can beat Boston, and they've had their way with the Houston Rocks for years. But Detroit? They'd better be full of rage over how ridiculous Detroit made them look last time.
